Tim McGraw shocked fans a few years back, when he said he might be interested in one day putting music on hold to run for a political office. But now it seems the country superstar is singing a different, sobering tune.

"That was back in my drinking days," Tim explains to the Minneapolis Star Tribune of his past political aspirations. "Who knows? I've been very fortunate. If one of these days I'm in a position where I can give back and feel like I'm smart enough to help and not just doing it for the hell of doing it, then it would be something I'd consider. But certainly it would be after my kids are grown."

The 45-year-old Democrat, who quit drinking several years ago to be a better example to his three daughters, is crossing the country this summer with good friend Kenny Chesney, along with Jake Owen and Grace Potter & the Nocturnals, on the Brothers of the Sun tour. The Louisiana native insists the sold-out crowds don't give him stage fright.

"The bigger the crowd, the better for me," he reports. "You get more nervous the smaller the crowd is. The intimate things are fun but it's more nerve-racking when you can see everybody. When there's 50,000 people, you sort of can just play to the back of the audience and have a great time."

The "Truck Yeah" singer's next show is in Chicago tomorrow (July 7), where he will give away a mortgage-free home to a veteran as part of his partnership with Operation HomeFront. See the complete list of upcoming stops on the Brothers of the Sun trek here.
