Sophia's Heart Foundation

Danny Gokey is a married man. The 'American Idol' alum wed model Leyicet Peralta over the weekend in Florida. It's the second marriage for the singer, whose first wife died in 2008 from complications from surgery to treat congenital heart disease. Danny opened Sophia's Heart Foundation in her honor, a non-profit organization that offers housing for homeless families, GED tutoring, job counseling and life coaching. His new wife, Leyicet, is a dedicated volunteer.

"We are so thankful to have found each other and now be able to spend the rest of our lives together," the couple tells People magazine. "We pray our gratitude grows more every day because there is so much for us to do now."

Their wedding ceremony, attended by about 100 friends and family members, was a low-key affair, the newlyweds report. Though Danny does admit he splurged on the dessert: a cake he calls "three tiers of chocolaty heaven."

Danny and Leyicet asked their guests to donate to Sophia's Heart in lieu of wedding gifts. The groom proudly reports that was his bride's idea.

"It was the most beautiful thing. She came up to me after we got engaged and said, 'Listen, I don't want any gifts for our wedding,'" Danny recalls to FOX News. "My ears kinda perked up, and she said, 'I want them to give toward the organization in honor of us.' It's her desire, too, to help homeless families and to see kids who don't have a lot of opportunities to be given the opportunity. She feels our wedding could be significant in helping all these people. My heart was touched when she did that, because you have to have someone strong in partnership with you to make an organization like this flourish."

Danny will have to put his honeymoon plans on hold. He is hosting the five-day Sophia's Heart cruise on Feb. 2, with fellow former 'American Idol' contestant Matt Giraud also on board to join in entertaining the travelers.
