'American Idol' winner Scotty McCreery is revealing details about his upcoming album, 'Clear as Day,' including what surprising superstar hand-picked a song to be included on the CD.

"There's technically going to be one cover," he tells the Boston Globe. "Keith Urban pitched a song my way, and it's one he did way back when he was part of the band called the Ranch. He's on tour right now so we don't know, but he said he might play guitar on the track."

The 17-year-old was inundated with song possibilities from Nashville's songwriting community, but says the selection was easier because he knew the exact direction he wanted his album to take. "It's not going to be poppy," reveals the high-school senior. "That's one thing we stayed away from. I grew up with the old-school stuff, so I didn't want to completely stray from that. We've got the rocker songs, the uptempo stuff. But when we slow it down, the songs get more intimate, and you can definitely hear some of the more classic elements."

While the North Carolina native acknowledges being on one of the highest-rated TV shows fast-tracked his rise to the top, he is acutely aware that the responsibility for his success now lies solely with him. "When I went to Nashville for CMA Fest, that was one of the things I was worried about, meeting those guys and knowing that I'm just 17 and I didn't grow up playing honky-tonks for 15 years and paying my dues," he notes. "That's something that I know I have to do now. I have to go out there and work hard and try to stick around. It's not going to be handed to me. It's definitely something I've got to work for, but they've been great to me."

The former grocery store clerk is adjusting to his new role as one of the most famous faces in music. "It's a lot of pressure," he concedes to The Boot. "Just the title of 'American Idol' is something that people can look up to. I'm not Saint Scott, I'm not Mr. Perfect but I want to be that role model. I want to go down the same road that Carrie Underwood did -- kinda separate myself from 'Idol.' Because when you think of Carrie Underwood now, you don't think 'American Idol' Season 4 winner, you just think Carrie Underwood. I want to cross that bridge. There's a lot of pressure and work that goes into it, but I'm looking forward to it."

Scotty is continuing crossing the country on the American Idols Live tour, which heads to Maine, New Hampshire and Connecticut this week. Keep track of the tour schedule here.

'Clear as Day' hits shelves October 4. The debut single from the album, 'I Love You This Big,' is currently in the Top 20.
