When he's not on the road or in the recording studio, you can usually find George Strait on the golf course. Now, he won't have to pay those pesky greens fees when he decides to pack up his irons to take a few swings. The superstar and his partner, Tom Cucisk, have purchased the Tapatio Springs Golf Resort and Conference Center in Boerne, about 25 miles northwest of San Antonio, Texas.

On April 1, the two closed the deal with Textron Financial Corp., which has owned the property since it was foreclosed on last June. Financial details have not yet been released.

"I have lived near Boerne, and over the years Tom and I watched what was happening at Tapatio Springs, and we always believed it could be a real jewel," the country superstar says in a press release. "When the opportunity came up, we decided to go for it and make this dream come true."

The property features 27 holes of golf, a resort hotel, over 20,000 square feet of convention and meeting facilities, tennis, swimming and a fitness club. It was the first golf resort/conference center in the San Antonio area and opened up in 1981.

"We have begun our master plan and want the end result to be extraordinary. This may not be 'ocean front property,' says the legendary performer, recalling one of his No. 1 hits. "But it's the next best thing."

In addition to golf, King George also enjoys fishing, hunting and team roping, holding his annual Team Roping Event each March. George has a couple more concert dates on the books with pals Reba McEntire and Lee Ann Womack. He is set to perform tonight (April 8) in Columbia, Mo., and Saturday in Louisville, Ky.
