Even though Trace Adkins has sold more than seven million albums and scored 22 Top 10 singles, he can still admit when he's done wrong, sort of.

His previous hits run the spectrum from 'Hot Mama' to 'You're Gonna Miss This,' as well as comedic tunes including 'Honky Tonk Badonkadonk.' But it's his new single, 'Brown Chicken Brown Cow,' from his latest CD, 'Cowboy's Back in Town,' that has the burly singer red in the face.

"They told me it was a hit," he joked about the tune, which has barely cracked the Top 40 after nine weeks on the chart (quote via CMT). "I'm going to blame the three songwriters."

The song, which is actually the punch line to a sexual joke that dates back to porn movies in the 1970s, has caused quite a stir among formerly loyal fans. Not that Trace is concerned with the backlash. "The purists and the traditionalists all think that I'm such an embarrassment to this genre," he tells CMT. "It just makes them projectile vomit. The idea that I'm actually a Grand Ole Opry member and put out this vile, heathenistic [sic], s---. Yeah, so what?"

He may be getting plenty of backlash for the new tune, but the criticism is falling on deaf ears. "I do what I want to do," he insists. "I've got five daughters and a beautiful wife, and if I can look at myself in the mirror at night and know that I haven't done anything to bring any disgrace or disappointment upon them, then I'm good. Anybody else that has a problem with it, then that's your problem."

In addition to appearing in his new video on the small screen, Trace is also getting ready to appear on the silver screen in a new movie, 'The Lincoln Lawyer,' as part of an all-star cast including Matthew McConaughey, Marisa Tomei, Ryan Phillippe and William H. Macy.

'The Lincoln Lawyer' hits theaters March 18. Watch a clip from the film here.
