This week marks the ninth anniversary of Waylon Jennings' passing, and what better way to pay tribute to his legacy than with the release of 'The Music Inside: A Collaboration Dedicated to Waylon Jennings, Vol. 1' tomorrow (February 8). Waylon's widow Jessi Colter and son Shooter Jennings are joined by an all-star group on the recording, which includes Kris Kristofferson, Trace Adkins and John Hiatt.

Among those artists is Alabama, whose contribution is their first new music in a decade. "What an opportunity for us to go back in the studio, play and record live like we used to, and pay tribute to a true legend in music; not in country music ... in music period," Alabama's Randy Owen says.

"There have been several tribute albums made in my father's honor, all of which were great tributes to his legacy," says Shooter. "But this one has been a true passion project for a lot of artists and friends who truly wanted to remember and give back to the wonderful man he was. In the years since my dad passed away, I've grown as an artist and I feel this is the first time I've truly been able to give back to the man who inspired, influenced and nurtured me and my musical passion."

For Shooter and his mother, the recording process for this project started more than two-and-a-half years ago with guitarist Reggie Young and producer Witt Stewart.

'The Music Inside: A Collaboration Dedicated to Waylon Jennings, Vol. 1' will be released tomorrow (February 8). Volume 2 is scheduled for a June 14 release, the day before what would have been Waylon's 74th birthday. Volume 3 is slated to be unveiled in fall 2011, the day prior to Waylon and Jessi's 42nd wedding anniversary.
