Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson Are Americana Chart-Toppers
While it has become common practice at this time of the week for The Boot to give readers a recap of how your favorite are doing on the country sales charts, there's simply not a whole lot of action to report! Lady Antebellum are spending their 19th week at No. 1. OK, we get it, they sell a lot of records!
But if you're missing those days when the charts were dominated by the likes of Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson, there is another chart that should make you very happy this week. Merle's 'I Am What I Am' and Willie's 'Country Music,' the two legendary artists most recent releases, are currently holding down the No. 1 and No. 2 spots on the Americana airplay chart, based on reporting radio stations across the country.
The remaining Top 5 albums on the Americana chart are John Hiatt's 'The Open Road' at No. 3, Jim Lauderdale's 'Patchwork River' at No. 4, and Darrell Scott's 'Crooked Road' at No. 5.
Albums by Elizabeth Cook ('Welder'), Shelby Lynne ('Tears, Lies and Alibis'), Mary Chapin Chapin Carpenter ('The Age of Miracles'), and the self-titled debut by Court Yards Hounds are also among the Top 20.
Nominees for this year's Americana Honors and Awards were announced last month in Nashville.
