Mindy McCready Proclaims ‘I’m Still Here’

Mindy McCready's story has been splashed across tabloids with details of her personal struggles, including her stints in jail and rehab, taking center stage for much of the past decade. But now it appears she's finally returning to the place where she first became well-known. On March 23, the singer will release 'I'm Still Here,' her first new album since 2002.

"We have always been confident in Mindy's talent," says Michael Fancher, the head of Iconic Records, the label releasing the singer's new CD. "This album shows she's at the top of her game musically; she's the best she's ever sounded and we look forward to reintroducing her music to fans new and old."

In addition to nine new tracks, the collection will include the acoustically-performed 'By Her Side,' and a lushly orchestrated version of Garth Brooks' hit, 'The Dance.' She's also re-recorded her two biggest hits, 'Guys Do It All the Time' and 'Ten Thousand Angels.'

A native of Florida, Mindy moved to Music City after high school, shopping demos by day and playing clubs at night. She signed with RCA while still in her teens and scored a multi-platinum debut album in 1996. From her first high-profile romantic relationship with actor Dean Cain in 1997, however, headlines detailing Mindy's personal life began supplanting those related to her music career.

The situation worsened as Mindy amassed a a laundry list of troubles with drugs, alcohol and the law. She was arrested in 2004 for fraudulently obtaining prescription pills. In 2005, she was picked up for DUI and was arrested again just two months later on a string of charges, including identity theft and unlawful imprisonment. A subsequent arrest came in July 2007, when Mindy allegedly assaulted her own mother and then resisted arrest. That incident resulted in her spending four months in a Tennessee jail. Another jail stint came in 2008 after the singer violated her probation. Later that year, she entered rehab twice -- the second time after a failed suicide attempt.

Mindy also made headlines after admitting to an affair with married baseball star Roger Clemens. The two met when the aspiring singer was just 15 years old, singing in a Florida karaoke bar. Clemens was already married with children at the time. Their alleged relationship lasted on and off through 2006.

Mindy's troubled past and her battle with drug abuse caught the attention of a television producer. Joining the cast of VH1's 'Celebrity Rehab 3,' which is airing now, she returned to the public eye. On episode seven of the series, Mindy performs the title track from her new album.
