By now, every Taylor Swift fan knows that many of her songs are devoted to her love life -- a fairytale romance ('Love Story'); the guy she couldn't get out of her mind ('Tim McGraw'); the guy who broke her heart ('White Horse'); the guy who cheated on her ('Should've Said No'); the guy she liked but, alas, he had another girlfriend ('Teardrops on My Guitar' and 'You Belong With Me'); the ex-boyfriend she's seeking revenge on ('Picture to Burn'); and, of course, the (alleged) Joe Jonas experience ('Forever and Always'). But there was one relationship she skipped when it came to her songwriting choices.

"In my sophomore year (of high school), the place to hang out was the volleyball court," Taylor tells The Boot. "That's where I got asked to go to prom by a guy named Cody ... It was two days before prom, and both of us were dateless. So I was sitting there on a bench next to him, and he was like, 'Well, my girlfriend broke up with me.' And I was like, 'Well, my boyfriend cheated on me.' And he was like, 'So, you don't have a date for prom any more?' And I'm like, 'Nope, do you?' And we both just looked at each other, and he said, 'Wait a second, I need to make this special.' So he gets a stick and draws in the sand: "Prom" -- and then a question mark. And I said, 'Yes! Of course!' It was the most fun prom because we were just friends, and it was so spontaneous."

So why didn't Taylor write a song about that experience?

"I didn't write a song about that one because we didn't date," she says with a sly grin.
