Willie Nelson celebrated his 80th birthday in style. The Texan enlisted several of his famous friends to record ‘CMT Crossroads: Willie Nelson & Friends From Third Man Records,’ to help him ring in the new decade in April. The episode aired this past Sunday (June 23).

"I enjoy singing with other singers and playing with other pickers," Willie explains to CMT. "It's just what I like doing. I've always enjoyed playing, back with Waylon and the Highwaymen and all those."

Nelson was joined by Norah Jones, Sheryl Crow, Neil Young, Jamey Johnson and Ashley Monroe, who joined the iconic entertainer on the tune ‘Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain.’ The song, which was Nelson’s first No. 1 hit in 1975, was a perfect fit for Monroe’s angelic voice.

Monroe, who may be best known as a member of Pistol Annies (along with Miranda Lambert and Angaleena Presley), just released her first solo album, ‘Like a Rose,’ on Warner Music Nashville. The nine-song CD, which was produced by Vince Gill, is reminiscent of the classic country sound that Nelson helped usher in in the '60s and '70s.
