Virginia native Brinn Black moved from the East Coast to Music City in pursuit of her singing dreams, with country stars Kelly Clarkson, Patsy Cline and Jennifer Nettles paving the way as her biggest influences. But when her career started taking off, tragedy struck.

“My fiancé passed away of a heart attack at 30 years old,” Black shares with The Boot. “And it wrecked me. It rocked my world, and it still does.”

Black took a year off to let her heart heal, and her newest single, "Daddy's Medicine," shows fans just how hard she pressed into pain. The result is an emotionally charged song addressing her father's life-long struggle with alcoholism.

Though Black naturally gravitates toward uptempo songs (as evidenced by her previous singles, “Crushin'” and “Hey Love), "Daddy's Medicine" expands her repertoire as a writer, and reveals a new side of Black. Her forthcoming record embodies a different sound, inspired by personal experiences of heartache, hope and healing.
