Mumford & Sons were the musical guest on the Dec. 8, 2018, episode of Saturday Night Live. The band performed their newest single, "Guiding Light," and the title track of their new album, "Delta," on the sketch comedy show.

"Guiding Light" is "a song that had very many incarnations," Mumford & Sons banjo player Winston Marshall tells The Boot. "I remember coming in one morning, and Marcus had been up late in the studio, and he had that chorus. He also had completely different verses ... and then we took the song to Paul [Epworth, our producer] in the studio in North London, and we spent a long process of trying to work out which verses were what, what melody was it, and the arrangement.

"It was a lot of choosing in that song," Marshall adds.

A 14-track album, Delta is the first new album from Mumford & Sons -- bandleader Marcus Mumford, keys player Ben Lovett, Marshall and bassist Ted Dwane -- since 2015's Wilder Mind. On album release day, the band launched an extensive, 60-date tour in support of the record.

Mumford & Sons' Delta Tour began in the United Kingdom but has now brought the British band back to the United States for the remainder of 2018. In 2019, they'll be on the road in North America until late May.
