Joey Feek's terminal cancer diagnosis has inspired a Nashville songwriter.

Tyler Hayes, a fan of Joey + Rory, penned and recorded "Joey's Song" back in November, after hearing an update about Feek's cancer battle. On Facebook, he says that he wants the tune "to be a reminder that no matter what happens to Joey in the upcoming weeks, she will NEVER leave her family and those who care about her most."

"No words could ever appropriately describe what Joey Feek and her family are currently going through. I know if I was standing in front of her right now I would be at a loss for words," Hayes writes. "... I hope this song has a chance to bring comfort and peace to her and her family."

“I’m not gonna leave you / Lost and lonely / I hope it makes your heart smile / When you think about me / I’ll be right beside you / As you go about your day / And if you ever need me / I’ll be just a prayer away," the song goes. "So please don’t think that we’re through / Because I’m not gonna leave you.”

Hayes recorded "Joey's Song" at Franklin, Tenn.'s Dark Horse Studio after writing it "in about eight minutes." The song is available for download on iTunes, with all of the proceeds going to a charity of Joey Feek's choice.

As fans know, in late October, Rory Feek informed fans, via his blog, that his wife’s first round of chemotherapy and radiation treatments for Stage IV cervical cancer did not help; rather, two quarter-sized tumors had appeared in the same area that the doctors had been treating, and several more tumors had appeared in her abdomen. In light of that sad news, the Feeks stopped all medical treatments, returned to their Tennessee farm and canceled all of their Farmhouse Concerts that were scheduled for November and December. They have been spending time in Joey Feek’s hometown, visiting with family, friends and other loved ones, and in early November, Rory Feek revealed that his wife had entered home hospice care.
