Food lovers with a taste for good Southern cooking will soon be able to get tips from Trisha Yearwood as she launches a new show on the Food Network. 'Trisha's Southern Kitchen' premieres on Saturday, April 14.

"For me, cooking is very connected to my family and friends," the Grammy-winning chanteuse says. "Every recipe on the show carries wonderful memories with my loved ones and I can't wait to share my meals, stories and family photos with Food Network viewers."

The new show is a natural fit for the Georgia-born singer who has authored two best-selling cookbooks. 'Georgia Cooking in an Oklahoma Kitchen,' written with her mom, Gwen, and sister, Beth, was published in 2008 and 'Cooking for Family and Friends' was published in 2010. Both books hit No. 1 on the New York Times best-seller list in the Advice, How-To and Miscellaneous category.

On the new show, Trisha will share some of her family's favorite recipes and help health-conscious viewers by offering tips on how to lighten up some of the more decadent Southern dishes. The six-episode series was shot in Nashville and will feature theme shows that include planning a baby shower and a family barbecue.

Viewers will learn how to prepare such Yearwood family favorites as Daddy's Barbecued Chicken, Chick-less Pot Pie and Uncle Wilson's Famous Baked Onions.
