Tim McGraw Promises More Faith Hill Duets to Come

Tim McGraw released Emotional Traffic, his last album for Curb Records, earlier this year, and he’s already looking ahead to new music. Included in his plans is a project that will make fans of his wife, singer Faith Hill, very happy … eventually.

“We’ll certainly do [more duets] down the road,” Tim tells American Songwriter magazine. “I’ll do an album eventually but it’s tough to say when. She’s busy and she’s got her career. We look at it as three different careers — her career, my career and what we do together. We try to keep them separated.”

The happy couple weren’t even married when they recorded their first duet, “It’s Your Love,” but they knew right away they had latched on to a winning combination. “We were dating at the time and we were in the middle of a tour together,” Tim recalls. “I had a place [outside of Nashville] and the bus was sitting there. Missy [Gallimore, producer Byron Gallimore's wife] showed up with that song and we went to the back of the bus to listen. I instantly knew I was going to cut it. I played it for Faith and told her I wanted her to sing on it. We both really felt like we had something.”

Something, indeed. “It’s Your Love” became a multi-platinum hit and the couple went on to record several more duets together: “Just to Hear You Say That You Love Me,” “Let’s Make Love,” “I Need You” and “Like We Never Loved at All.” Tim says, however, that what they look for in a song is not always the same.

“We don’t always agree,” he admits. “We have different tastes and different ideas about how we want things to sound. She’s one of those artists who definitely knows what her sound is and what she wants to do. I’m the same way. She comes from more of an R&B, gospel, bluesy, Motown sort of thing, and I come from a ’70s rock/Southern rock attitude. So we have different backgrounds of what we like.”

Tim won’t have much time to work on collaborating with his wife for the next few months. He heads out on his Brothers of the Sun tour, with good friend Kenny Chesney, on June 2 in Tampa, Fla. Keep track of his concert schedule here.
