Fans planning to see Thompson Square on the road this year are getting a glimpse of what's to come in their fast-paced new video for "Trans Am."

The married couple chose to use the actual staging and lighting from their live show to film the video with director Wes Edwards, who shot during a 15-hour day at Nashville Soundcheck. The video is the first by the duo that features them performing live, and it's also the first time that their bandmates have joined them on screen.

“It’s the first time we’ve ever had any sort of live element in the video,” Keifer Thompson tells Country Weekly. “We had the production and the band, and we wanted to incorporate that into the song. The song is more of a live, rocking song.

"There’s so many computer-generated aspects of the video," he adds. "We trusted [Wes] and his vision for greatness with all of that stuff. And he and I worked very well together. He’s a great director. It should be fun.”

In addition to the live aspects of the video, Edwards chose to include the song's namesake -- a 1977 Trans Am. Edwards took the color scheme of the vehicle and sprinkled the black and gold throughout the video, giving the whole thing a very Las Vegas feeling.

"The treatment really just kind of came from the classic car -- the Trans Am -- the classic Smokey and the Bandit car," Edwards says in a behind-the-scenes video on Glamour.com. "I just wanted to do a really rockin' performance video ... Everything stems from the look of this car."

Adds Keifer Thompson of the vehicle, “It was completely refurbished. It was all back to original. The guy lives in Alabama, and this is all he does, is refurbish old Trans Ams. We got to sit in it. Didn’t get to drive it, though.”

Thompson Square co-wrote "Trans Am" with Blair Daly and Nathan Chapman. The track comes off of the duo's upcoming album, which they've been working on for over a year, hoping to get everything just right for their fans.

“We’ve been working on this next record ever since the last record came out,” Keifer Thompson says. “It’s a very painstaking process that we take very seriously, so it’s something we want to get out as much as we can.”

Adds Shawna Thompson, “We wanted this album to reflect what our live show is like. It’s a very tempo-driven project and probably represents us more than both of its predecessors."

"Trans Am" is available for download on iTunes.
