Thompson Square continue to check milestones off their career bucket list with the release of the pair's self-titled debut album. Considering the real-life husband-and-wife duo were bartending in downtown Nashville only one year ago, an opening slot on country superstar Jason Aldean's tour, an invitation to play the Grand Ole Opry and a Top 20 country single with the infectious 'Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not' are impressive feats.

Still, Kiefer and Shawna Thompson admit the release of their album, available in stores and online today (February 8), marks the pinnacle of a decade-long struggle to crack the country music industry.

"We are really proud of the music we have on our debut album," Shawna tells The Boot. "All the blood, sweat and tears it took to get to this point in our career has definitely been worthwhile."

Both vocalists are capable when taking the lead throughout the 12-song collection, but the true strength of their debut effort arrives as the two dynamic voices combine to produce Thompson Square's flawless, signature harmony. Kiefer's soulful grit complements Shawna's subtle delivery on 'Glass' and 'If it Takes All Night,' while Shawna's sweet southern twang (with a hint of Pam Tillis) enhances her husband's charming demeanor on the uptempo tracks 'Let's Fight' and 'I Got You.'

Neither voice demands top billing, which results in a skillfully executed collaborative effort that mirrors the couple's 11-year marriage. Each track offers a personal insight into the duo's personal and musical union, even though the two didn't write every song.

"It was very important for me to have some original songs I wrote," Kiefer confesses. "But we weren't stupid; if there was a better song, we put it on there."

One song that made the cut is the project's first single, 'Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not,' written by the writing team responsible for Jason Aldean's hit 'Big Green Tractor.' The track sits at No. 19 on Billboard's Top Country Singles Chart, and is currently the third best-selling country single on iTunes.

"We are excited for the world to hear our debut album!" Kiefer says with the enthusiasm of a proud new father. "This album was like giving birth and we just hope everyone doesn't think our baby is ugly."
