Thompson Square’s Keifer Thompson Shares Recovery News
There’s good news for fans of Thompson Square. The reigning ACM Vocal Duo of the Year may soon be cleared to return to the stage after canceling a number of recent shows while Keifer Thompson deals with vocal problems.
“I had a really bad hemorrhage, and it’s completely healed, resolved and the polyp is about 70 percent down, so they don’t want to do surgery now,” the singer tells Country Weekly.
The duo consisting of husband and wife singers Keifer and Shawna Thompson have scored several hit singles since their debut in 2011, including ‘Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not’ and ‘Glass.’ Their most recent single, ‘If I Didn’t Have You,’ reached No. 1 on the Country Airplay chart in May of 2013, and they released a new single, ‘Everything I Shouldn’t Be Thinking About,’ in June. They were on the road with Luke Bryan when Keifer started experiencing vocal problems, forcing the duo to cancel several shows.
Keifer announced his struggles in an emotional post to Thompson Square’s website on May 29, writing, “I was urged by doctors to cancel Thompson Square’s appearances and go on complete vocal rest several weeks ago; however, neither Shawna nor I wanted to disappoint our fans, which we love and respect dearly.”
They ended up canceling subsequent dates as he continued to heal. The singer says he reached out to others who’ve experienced vocal problems for advice and reassurance, among them Keith Urban, Gary Allan and Larry Gatlin. “[They] talked me off a ledge and told me that it was OK,” he states.
Keifer’s also been working with doctors and vocal coaches in learning new singing techniques to avoid future complications.
Thompson Square’s tour schedule lists their next show on June 21 at the Butler County Fair in Allison, Iowa. So far there has been no announcement of a cancellation.
