The year 2017 is going to be one to remember for Thomas Rhett -- and not just because of his headlining Home Team Tour. The singer and his wife Lauren are preparing to welcome two children into their family: She's pregnant with a baby girl, and they are also adopting a child from Africa. Rhett is thrilled, of course, but he's also a bit overwhelmed by it all.

"I’ve written a couple songs that just talk about the severe shock of knowing that you’re adopting a child and then you find out that you’re pregnant," Rhett recently shared with The Boot and other reporters at a media event. "I can definitely see myself in the near future pretty much only writing about my children. It will be fun to see how they act and see what kind of inspiration I get from them."

Although he's doing everything he can to get ready for his and Lauren's new arrivals, Rhett concedes that it's his wife who's the true hero in this situation.

"I’ve never been pregnant, obviously, but Lauren is a trooper," Rhett boasts. "Lauren being pregnant and going back and forth to a country in Africa, back and forth, is a lot ...

"The process of adopting someone from a different country is really, really strenuous. You find out a lot about yourself when you’re over there ... Really, the best way that I can describe the adoption process is, it’s an emotional roller coaster," the singer adds. "But in the end, all of it is for a good thing. You just have to realize that you’re adopting a human being, and so you know that those people that are going to let her in your care, they want to know that you’re a stand-up person and can support this child."

Country Music's Cutest Baby Bumps

Rhett and his wife were actually in Africa when they found out that Lauren was pregnant. The two were on a safari with Florida Georgia Line's Tyler Hubbard and his wife -- and Rhett was the last one to know the big news.

"They all three -- because I was in the gym, working out -- they all came in and said, ‘We’re having a baby.’ I was like, ‘You are kidding me! How in the world are we about to have two kids within less than a year?'" Rhett recalls. "But, just honestly, I was just overjoyed. I always wanted twins."

Rhett plans to keep touring and performing after he becomes a father of two, even though he understands that it will be quite an adjustment. Thankfully, he has plenty of friends, including Dierks Bentley and Luke Bryan, to reach out to for advice.

"Dierks said, ‘Don’t be afraid if you drink four Red Bulls a day.' And I’ve watched Dierks drink a lot of Red Bulls," shares Rhett. "They say it takes a lot of getting used to ... So the best advice, I think, is to take it as it comes, and realize you’re going to be exhausted.

"I’ve done all I can to talk to people like Dierks and Luke, and all these people that have children and also travel," continues Rhett. "I think my biggest fear is looking at my daughter and being like, ‘Yeah, I gotta go on the road for the weekend;’ Dierks always talks about his girls holding onto his legs and stuff. I don’t know if I’m going to be able to deal with that, but people do it, and it will become a new normal."

In addition to his Home Team Tour dates, Rhett will be headlining Country Jam 2017, which will take place in Colorado in June. A list of all of his upcoming shows is available on his website.
