Viewers of the 2017 ACM Awards were treated to a special performance from Thomas Rhett and Maren Morris on Sunday night (April 2). Together, they sang Rhett's brand-new single, "Craving You."

When we say "brand-new single," we meant it: "Craving You" dropped on Friday (March 31). Though he's been playing it at his shows, this was the first time Rhett and Morris took the stage to sing the single. Rhett performed part of the song before Morris walked onstage, and from that point, they played off one another's energy.

Morris, named the ACM New Female Vocalist of the Year for 2017, provides background vocals on the track, which will appear on Rhett's forthcoming new record.

"Craving You" was written by Julian Bunetta and Dave Barnes. Rhett wasn't able to make the co-writing session, as he was sick, but he was "blown away" by the song, which he describes as "a little bit emotional, a little bit tense," when he heard it. Of course, the addition of Morris was a great move (when wouldn't it be?), and Rhett had an "amazing" experience working with her.

“It was so nice to be able to work with — you know, there’s a lot of females that are killing it right now, and Maren is definitely one of those girls whose voice is just undeniably powerful and soulful, and on top of that, [she’s] just a really, really sweet person to work with,” Rhett says. “I think she just adds so much life and so much intensity to this song.”

Both Rhett and Morris are staying incredibly busy these days, as their careers continue to skyrocket: Rhett's on the road for his Home Team Tour, and Morris is finishing up her Hero Tour; she'll join Sam Hunt for his 15 in a 30 Tour this summer.
