You never know who's going to pop up where in Nashville. On Wednesday night (Sept. 30), Reba McEntire and Little Big Town's Karen Fairchild and Kimberly Schlapman surprised the crowd at the Basement East by joining up-and-coming trio the Shadowboxers for a rendition of Dolly Parton's "Jolene."

The pop-funk group, made up of Adam Hoffman, Matt Lipkins and Scott Schwartz, has, since August, held a monthly residency at the Music City club. Wednesday night's theme was "sweet harmony sounds," according to the band's website -- and McEntire and the LBT ladies certainly know a thing or two about that. The red-headed country legend took the lead on the first verse, with Fairchild and Schlapman taking the lead on the second verse, and the Shadowboxers members adding in harmonies. "This is us on stage singing "Jolene" with @reba and @littlebigtown. Don't really know how else to put it," the Shadowboxers posted on Instagram, along with a photo taken during the song, after the show. "So. Cool."

Add Little Big Town on Instagram, "Well, this was amazing."

The Shadowboxers' Basement East residencies continue through December. In October, they'll be covering Michael Jackson's Thriller in its entirety, while December's set will feature their own tunes. Check out the trio's website for more information.

“Jolene,” the title track of Parton’s 13th studio album, became her second No. 1 hit in February of 1974 and has been covered by a number of well-known artists. Although the tune sounds as though it could have been inspired by trouble with Parton’s husband Carl, “Jolene” is actually partly based on an innocuous relationship with a red-haired bank teller.

The song will be the basis for Parton's second made-for-TV movie for NBC.
