Taylor Swift’s acting ambitions are paying off with the confirmation that she will play a role in the upcoming film ‘The Giver.’

The film is based on the book by Lois Lowry, and centers around a boy who learns about the real world while living in a utopian society devoid of war, pain, suffering or choice.

Page Six reported last week that the ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’ singer had been cast in the film alongside Meryl Streep, Jeff Bridges and Aussie Brenton Thwaites, who was seen with Swift at the Toronto Film Festival, causing romance rumors to fly.

Thwaites denied the rumors, but the two were seen hanging out all night. It now seems that they may have been talking business. Billboard confirmed Swift's involvement Monday (Sept. 30). The film is set to begin filming on Oct. 7 in Cape Town, South Africa.

According to sources at Page Six, Harvey Weinstein offered Swift the role in ‘The Giver’ while in Toronto.

“Harvey introduced Taylor to Brenton in Toronto because they were both going to be in the film,” a source says.

Her role in ‘The Giver’ won’t be Swift’s first -- she appeared alongside Taylor Lautner in 2010’s ‘Valentine’s Day,’ as well as in a recent episode of Fox’s ‘New Girl.’ According to IMDB, the singer is also rumored to appear in ‘The Secret Service’ alongside Samuel L. Jackson, Colin Firth and Lady Gaga.

'The Giver' is slated for release on Aug. 15, 2014.
