Taylor Swift has been named to Barbara Walters' 2014 10 Most Fascinating People list, alongside Oprah Winfrey, Chelsea Handler, Elon Musk, Neil Patrick Harris and others.

In an interview, set to air on Dec. 14 on ABC, Walters questioned Swift about everything from her career and dating life to her drinking habits. Walters mainly talked to the Grammy winner about her reputation and the influence she has on young fans.

"You have such a good reputation," the 85-year-old journalist says. "You have never been 'the bad girl' ... You don't drink. You don't smoke."

Swift answers, "I mean, I do drink, I am 25 ... [but] I did wait until I was 21 to drink. I was so paranoid about getting in trouble or setting the wrong example or sending the wrong message."

However, Swift knows that her fan base includes a lot of young people, and she's sensitive to the fact that her actions can have an impact on them.

"I put every one of my actions through a filter before I do them because that's the way my life is," she says. "If I do something reckless or thoughtless or careless, or I treat someone badly, that doesn't just affect me; it affects that person. Then, if that story gets out, or some 10-year-old sees that I did that in a news article ... My actions do have ripples."

That kind of pressure could be difficult for many in the public eye, but Swift says that there are some very positive aspects to it.

"It's kind of a nice thing to keep you in check to live a good life," she says. "It's not like some gilded golden cage that people make it out to be. Living your life the 'right way' and trying to make 'good decisions' is not necessarily some horrible penalty."

The 'Blank Space' singer takes on the role of an extremely crazy girlfriend in the single's music video, but in the interview, Walters recognizes how sane Swift actually is, especially for someone in the spotlight, saying, "You seem very centered."

"I think all the time about big concepts in my life," Swift explains. "I don't have answers for everything, and that doesn't scare me. I think the reason I am sane is because I have a really good family who are all very sane, in the midst of all this kind of insanity surrounding my life. That really helps -- it really helps -- 'cause I can talk to them about it, and they are gonna be very honest with me about it ... but always, always really supportive."

Swift will celebrate her 25th birthday the day before Walters' 2014 Most Fascinating People special airs (Dec. 13).
