T.G. Sheppard is recovering in a Nashville hospital from a serious bladder infection. The "Devil in the Bottle" singer fell ill after a show last Thursday (Oct. 11).

"He was admitted in ICU with a bladder infection that has caused extreme high heart rate," states the singer's wife, Kelly Lang (quote via Country Weekly). "He is very weak and they are trying to keep his heart rate down, but it has been a challenge. Thank you for keeping us in your prayers."

The 68-year-old country legend spent much of 2012 on the road and has several more dates planned, including a performance in Columbus, Ohio at a Mitt Romney campaign event. "I am thrilled at the opportunity to perform for Gov. Romney," Sheppard says. "I have met Mitt on several occasions, and whole- heartedly support him as the next President of the United States of America."

There's no word yet on whether Sheppard will be released from the hospital in time to perform at the event.

The Tennessee native released an album of gospel tunes, Because You Love Me, earlier this year. The 14-song CD can be purchased on his website.
