Steven Tyler Responds to Joe Perry’s Criticism: ‘Jealousy Runs Deep’

Steven Tyler's foray into country music doesn't thrill everyone -- especially his Aerosmith bandmate Joe Perry. Perry dissed Tyler's latest solo single, but Tyler isn't letting the criticism get him down.

"Who doesn't love country music?" Tyler tells a reporter in a video from TMZ. And when Perry's comments about "Red, White & You" come up (Perry says, “Hey, if I didn’t know him when I heard the song, I’d go, ‘It’s okay, next.'"), Tyler is clear and to the point.

"That's how they are. That's why I'm doing a country record," the Aerosmith frontman says. "It's alright. You know what, jealousy runs deep in this family."

Tyler's other Aerosmith bandmates are more or less supportive of his solo work. Tom Hamilton says he "... can’t blame him for wanting to do it," and Brad Whitford says, “I hope it’s a hit for him. It’ll be great for Aerosmith,” but he also admits that the group was “a little bit abandoned.”

In the end, Tyler says of Perry, "He's doing what he's doin', and I do what I do ... got a couple good songs goin'."

Tyler has two solo shows currently planned for 2016. They’re set to take place at the end of March in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. More information on tickets is available on the Fallsview Casino Resort website.
