Shelby Lynne and Allison Moorer Take Sister Act on the Road

Shelby Lynne and her younger sister Allison Moorer have both carved out successful music careers for themselves. Now the sisters are going 'Side by Side' for their first-ever tour together.

The Side by Side tour launches October 3, with the Alabama-born sisters taking the stage at the 10th Annual Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. Fittingly, the trek will close with a homecoming show at the Saenger Theatre in Mobile, Ala., on December 4. The pair grew up in the nearby town of Frankville.

Described as an "intimate, acoustic show," Shelby and Allison will accompany one another and perform songs from their respective careers, with plans to include a few surprise cover tunes in the shows as well.

Allison released her latest disc, 'Crows,' in February of this year, while Shelby's 'Tears, Lies and Alibis,' the first album on her own Everso record label, came out two months later. She's following up with her first holiday collection, 'Merry Christmas,' set for release on October 12.

Allison and her husband, singer-songwriter Steve Earle, have had an eventful 2010 as well, welcoming their first child, son John Henry, on April 5.

"He's sitting here with me," Allison told The Boot, as her son cooed into the telephone while his mom talked with us shortly after the baby was born, adding, "He's the one in control."

She also happily credited her hubby with pitching in when it came to parental duties, saying, "Fortunately, I have a very supportive husband. He'll be coming with me and holding our son when I'm busy."

And while Shelby calls herself "an old road dog," she told The Boot, "I'm one of those people who have a hard time getting out of the house even though ... I do love to get out there and sing. I have to leave my dogs and my garden. I've just turned into such a homebody."
