Scotty McCreery has been ordered to pay his former manager nearly a quarter of a million dollars after a jury delivered a verdict in an ongoing lawsuit.

A jury decided Wednesday (June 18) that the country star and 'American Idol' winner owes $239,000 to Todd Cassetty, who managed the 'Feelin' It' singer for a period of five months in 2012 and 2013.

According to Cassetty's original filing in July of 2013,  one of his companies, Cassetty Entertainment, signed McCreery as its first client in October of 2012, directly after he fulfilled a contractual obligation from ‘Idol’ under which he had to work with XIX Entertainment for a set period of time.

The legal complaint alleged that the singer’s mother, Judy, sent Cassetty an email saying that he was “unofficially official” as McCreery’s new manager, and he began working with him under the assurance that he would be compensated at the “industry standard” rate of 15-20 percent. The suit further alleged that a formal management agreement never materialized, and Judy McCreery then stepped in and offered him just two percent of gross revenue after he parted with the singer.

Cassetty's career includes working with the Country Radio Seminar, Gaylord Entertainment and Giant/Reprise Records. His digital marketing company, Hi-Fi Fusion, serves clients including Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood and Luke Bryan, as well as other top-level artists and record labels.

He originally sought $570,000 from McCreery. In a prepared statement, the singer insisted that he always intended to pay Cassetty, and framed Wednesday's decision as a victory.

"While it has been difficult to risk having my reputation challenged, I always believed that the truth would prevail, and it has," McCreery said (quote via Nashville's Tennessean). "I have a management team, including a professional business manager, in Nashville advising me. Now I am happy to put this behind me and focus on my music. As always, I am thankful to my fans for all of their support."
