Sara Evans Admits She’s ‘Obsessed’
Sara Evans, who wed college football hero Jay Barker in July, opened up on Tuesday's 'Good Morning America' about the end of her first marriage and the journey she took to find wedded bliss again.
Divorcing after 13 years amidst the public's watchful eye -- thanks in part to her competing on 'Dancing With the Stars,' which she ultimately left early to focus on her family -- Evans chose to shy away from the media spotlight until recently. Now happily married with a blended family of seven children, she is now ready to speak openly about finding love again. But she refuses to speak poorly about the first husband she accused of cheating and having a pornography habit, amongst other accusations.
"I won't talk about the divorce now because, you know, your children are gonna watch TV. They're gonna read magazines," she said. "The whole effort is to protect them because they're already going through enough without the whole world [knowing]."
With that challenging chapter behind her, Evans is more than happy to discuss her deep love for her new husband.
"I'm obsessed with Jay Barker. I adore him," Evans gushed. "I just stare at
him all the time. I think he's so gorgeous. But, not only that -- he's so smart, and he's such a great father."
The couple was introduced by the therapist they both used after their respective first marriages ended. Beginning with e-mails and phone calls, they soon graduated to their first date, playing softball. And while it may not have been the most romantic night, it was perfect for the two of them. Evans reports that it was at that game where she fell in love. Barker was equally smitten.
"I tell her all the time, she's the greatest person I've ever met," the former University of Alabama quarterback says. "All of a sudden we meet, and we fall instantly in love. And not only is she absolutely gorgeous, but her heart is better than any heart I've ever been around. She's an amazing mom. She's an amazing wife."
Marrying after only eight months of dating, neither Evans nor Barker had any qualms about taking another trip down the aisle.
"I cannot believe that I get to share this with him, spend the rest of my life with him, be a stepmother to those amazing children. I mean, just all of it overwhelmed me," Evans said. "I cannot believe I found this man who loves me better than I've ever been loved before in my whole life."
With seven children in the house, Evans admits it can be a bit crazy, but she relishes every moment.
"When all seven kids are here -- it's loud," Evans said. "But then, a lot of times, we just sit around and laugh. And there's a lot of huggin' and lovin' on each other ... With our whirlwind romance, and our kids all being together, there's no other way for me to explain it other than just, God said, 'Here's a blessing. Just take it.'"
