Sam Hunt Praises His 15 in a 30 Tour Opening Acts
Sam Hunt has a stacked lineup of opening acts on tour with him this summer. However, the “Body Like a Back Road” singer — who is joined by Maren Morris, Chris Janson and Ryan Follese for his 15 in a 30 Tour — admits he can’t take much of the credit for picking the rising stars to join him out on the road.
“Truthfully, I didn’t know them that well personally before hitting the road,” Hunt revealed to The Boot and other reporters at a recent media event. “I was busy last fall and summer, taking care of some things in my personal life, and, fortunately, my manager, Brad [Belanger], kept his finger on the pulse of what was happening in Nashville and kept me abreast of all the new artists, the new music and whatnot. We leaned on him early on in the tour plan process, and he had so many good things to say about those artists, and Maren specifically. And then I heard some of their music and was a fan.”
Morris, it turns out, was a fan of Hunt’s, and now, she is enjoying not only performing on his tour but taking in his show each night as well.
“I think Sam Hunt is such a trailblazer, so to get to perform right before he plays, and watch his show, you can just see into that guy’s brain,” Morris says. He’s very very smart … It’s such a great show, and I’m so proud of him for having that many people show up every night. It is crazy the response in the crowd.”
Hunt actually became a fan of Janson before Hunt even knew who he was, when both singers were opening for Luke Bryan on Bryan’s 2015 Farm Tour.
“Chris played the Luke tour, and the crowds just went crazy,” recalls Hunt. “I didn’t know who was playing. I knew of Chris, but I wasn’t familiar with his music. I went out to watch his set, and I’ve watched a lot of sets, I’ve watched a lot of music and artists over the past three years, and he captivated me more in those 10, 15 minutes, moreso than anybody else in a long time. I knew I wanted to work with him at some point.”
A list of all of the upcoming 15 in a 30 Tour stops is available on Hunt’s website.
