Actor and comedian Robin Williams, 63, was found dead in his California home on Monday (Aug. 11) of an apparent suicide, according to the Marin County Sheriff’s department.

ScreenCrush reports that Williams, who had a history of drug abuse and struggled with depression, passed of asphyxiation, but an investigation will take place to reveal an official cause of death.

Williams' credits include 'Aladdin,' 'Good Will Hunting,' 'Jumanji,' 'Mrs. Doubtfire' and 'Patch Adams,' as well as a storied stand-up comedy career. As news of his death rippled across news outlets, many country stars took to social media to mourn the loss of a legend.
