Rascal Flatts have been on the country scene for 14 years, and they've learned a thing or two from their fellow country stars.

When asked what the best advice is that they've received from a fellow musician, Jay DeMarcus joked around with lead singer Gary LeVox.

"Be the lead singer. Vince Gill," the piano and bass guitar player tells RadarOnline.com. "He said, 'You know where you screwed up? You weren’t the lead singer.'"

But Gill also gave the trio some more serious advice.

"Something that Vince Gill told us one time was, 'Be as humble going up as you are going out,'" LeVox says. "It’s just to be gracious and humbled because we truly have the greatest jobs in the world. We get to touch people’s lives through music, and it’s really great."

Lead guitar player Joe Don Rooney received some more practical advice on playing guitar from producer Dann Huff.

"[I'd] listen to his wisdom when it comes to crafting a solo for any song and playing a particular tune, to maybe set the guitar down and sing the solo," he says. "Create it from your mouth first, sing it with your voice. And then find it on the guitar with your fingers. It will go somewhere different because you normally go to the same patterns."

Rascal Flatts is currently on tour supporting their most recent album, 'Rewind.' See a list of upcoming tour stops at RascalFlatts.com.
