Country singer-songwriter Randy Montana may now be part of NASCAR's famous Petty clan (since he's married to Richard Petty's granddaughter, Montgomery) but he can unequivocally say there is no racing career in his future. Randy admits that he didn't care much for NASCAR before his wife and in-laws took him to a race, and that he's definitely the more cautious driver in the family.

"Before I met Montgomery I really was not a fan of racing," Randy tells The Boot. "I just didn't get it. But then they took me to a race where I sat down in the pit box where the crew chief was right next to me, and those cars were going by at 190 miles per hour, and I thought, 'OK, I get it now ... I see why people come out by the thousands to see this!'"

Randy says that between the two of them, his wife is definitely more apt to follow in the family footsteps when it comes to driving. "She has more speeding tickets than I do, as she should. I'm the safer driver. I drive like an old woman!"

Though he doesn't get any driving tips from his father-in-law, Kyle Petty, Randy does share songwriting tips with the former race-car driver, who dabbles in songwriting himself. According to Kyle, the way things are going, Randy may end up with an ace bus driver out of the deal.

"I've been coming to town trying to write for a while, and when he first started dating Montgomery Lee, Randy patronized me little and taught me some things, so it's fun," Kyle tells The Boot. "I've never written with his dad [songwriter] Billy [Montana], though. That's a different league ... I'm waiting for Randy to get the big bucks, though, so I can drive the bus. That's gonna be my job!"

And even though he's now got a professional musician for a son-in-law, Kyle concedes a career in country music isn't in his future. "No, no, not hardly," he says with a laugh. "I've never had a job in my life! I don't want to start now!"
