Randy Montana has released a new EP, 'Put Me In a Box.' The singer co-wrote and produced all five songs on the new project.

“'Put Me In a Box' speaks from a wiser, more mature place," Montana explains of the new project.

The 29-year-old is the son of famed songwriter Billy Montana, whose many cuts include Garth Brooks' 'More Than a Memory,' Jo Dee Messina's 'Bring On the Rain' and Sara Evans' 'Suds in the Bucket.' But the younger Montana says his family heritage only inspired him to try harder at honing his own craft.

“Growing up around it, it took me awhile to come into my own,” he says (quote via That Nashville Sound). “I never worried about being in a shadow or anything like that. But I also wanted to achieve that same kind of songwriting level that my dad achieved.”

Still, the married father of one says his father has his utmost respect.

“He had three little kids when he was trying to make it as an artist, and what a strain on a family and a relationship,” Montana tells The Boot. “To make a living writing songs, it’s unbelievable that he’s able to do that. And I really have learned so much from him."
