Following the success of their first No. 1 hit, "Break Up With Him," and their Top 5 single "Snapback," Old Dominion are releasing "Song for Another Time," the third single from their freshman album, Meat and Candy.

"We felt like it was time to show a little bit more of the meat side of Meat and Candy," lead singer Matt Ramsey tells The Boot of making "Song for Another Time" a single. "We had "Break Up With Him," which was definitely candy. "Snapback," we felt like, was a nice bridge between the two, and we just wanted a chance to show a little bit more of the more substantial side of us, and we love that song so much."

Ramsey wrote "Song for Another Time" with songwriter Matt Jenkins and fellow Old Dominion members Brad Tursi and Travor Rosen. Although Old Dominion instantly fell in love with the tune, they admit that it almost didn't make it onto the project.

"We wrote it after we thought we were done with the album," Ramsey explains. "We got done, and we said, ‘We’ve got to have this song on there,’ so we booked a special flight, got everybody back together."

Although Kenny Chesney doesn't have a co-writing credit on the song, Ramsey acknowledges that the country superstar deserves some of the credit, since it was while opening for Chesney on his 2015 The Big Revival Tour that Old Dominion realized how important "Song for Another Time" was to Meat and Candy.

"We were actually at a soundcheck. We were on the Chesney tour, and we soundchecked with it one day," Ramsey recalls. "It felt so big, just hearing it echo through the stadium. We were all like, ‘Man. This is a big song.’ So we went home and recorded it."
