Oak Ridge Boys’ William Lee Golden Marries Longtime Friend Simone Staley [PHOTOS]
Golden (76) and Staley married in an intimate Nashville ceremony at The Rosewall. They were surrounded by close family and friends, including Duane Allen, Richard Sterban and Joe Bonsall of the Oak Ridge Boys, among others.
The happy couple have an unconventional romance; they didn't meet, fall in love and get married in a timely manner. In fact, it took almost three decades of friendship to finally tie the knot -- and Golden and Staley couldn't be happier.
When Staley was 18 years old, she purchased the band's Together record -- and upon seeing Golden on the album cover, she was instantly drawn to him. That fall, she sat in the front row at one of their concerts and caught a scarf that Golden happened to throw her way. Finally, in October 1980, Staley and Golden met at a show at Knott's Berry Farm. Sparks flew. Though they spent time together, after a show in 1982, they lost touch.
Finally, in May 2009, after both losing their mothers, they reunited. Both share a love of art and painting, and Staley even painted a portrait of the singer, giving it to him in the 80s -- and is a prized possession; he even rescued it after his home was destroyed by a tornado.
In the summer of 2013, Golden invited Simone to travel with him, visiting family and friends. During that trip, they knew, they were meant to be.
"It's been the most beautiful experience, together," Golden says.
On their wedding day, the couple was radiant -- him in a smart black suit and she in a champagne dress. Staley took to Facebook to thank friends and fans for their excitement over the wedding. She says, "I want to say a huge 'thank you' to everyone that has taken time to send your love, prayers and blessings to William and myself. We are continuing our wedding weekend this evening with pizza and wine at home. I look forward to reading ALL the posts and comments from everyone!"
She updated her Twitter profile to read: "I am married to my beloved William Lee Golden. I am so blessed to be a newlywed, mother and grandmother."
Best wishes and hearty congratulations to the newlyweds!
