Miranda Lambert‘s MuttNation Foundation has headed to the Houston, Texas, area to help with Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. Specifically, they’re looking out for local animal shelters and stranded pets in need.
According to an Instagram post on the MuttNation Foundation account on Monday (Aug. 28), “it was important to our AMAZING founder, @mirandalambert that we do our part for her home state!” MuttNation’s staff members are driving vans, RVs and buses to the hurricane-ravaged parts of Texas and are ready to transport animals currently housed in the area’s shelters so they can make room for animals displaced by Hurricane Harvey; they’re also happy to give “any other support we can offer!!!” the Instagram message reads.
A native of Lindale, Texas, which is located about 200 miles north of Houston, Lambert founded the MuttNation Foundation in 2009 with her mom, Bev. The singer has been on social media offering up her own prayers for her home state, and asking her fans to do the same, and help out however they can.
Hurricane Harvey dumped two feet or more of rain on areas near the Texas coast and in the eastern part of the state over the weekend, and even more rain is expected. CNN reports that officials are expecting 450,000 people to need disaster relief assistance; FEMA Administrator Brock Long calls the storm “a landmark event for Texas.”
Both Chris Young and Lady Antebellum are helping with Hurricane Harvey relief efforts as well: Young has set up a GoFundMe campaign to help raise money for those affected by the natural disaster, encouraging his fans to donate whatever they can to the fund, which will be given to the Red Cross and other local Texas disaster relief organizations, and giving $100,000 himself. Lady A, meanwhile, donated proceeds from merchandise sales at their Saturday night (Aug. 26) concert in Dallas, Texas, to relief efforts.
