Watch Miranda Lambert Sing With Her Dad at Chicago Club Show
Miranda Lambert spent Tuesday night (Jan. 24) “rehearsing” for her 2017 Highway Vagabond Tour with a small club show in Chicago, Ill. — and near the end of the night, she was joined onstage by two very special people: her father, Richard Lambert, and her boyfriend, Anderson East. Together with Lambert’s band, they performed a gospel song, “Woke Up This Morning (With My Mind Stayed on Freedom).”
After Lambert introduced her band, her backup singer, Gwen Sebastian, started off the tune … and then handed the mic off to Mr. Lambert! Readers can press play on the video above to watch Richard Lambert and his country superstar daughter harmonize on the civil rights movement-era song. East, too, takes a few lines for himself, and throughout the onstage jam session, Lambert’s band members chimed in and offered up instrumental solos. Lambert herself, meanwhile, mostly added harmonies and grooved along in the background.
Miranda Lambert’s Best Live Shots
Lambert’s Tuesday night stop at Joe’s Bar, which featured Natalie Hemby as her special guest, benefited the Miranda Lambert Women Creators Fund, a scholarship for female Belmont University students pursuing careers in the music industry. Lambert has made a habit of playing club shows as “practice” for her tours: In early 2016, she played Nashville’s City Winery as an extension of her 2015 Roadside Bars and Pink Guitars Tour, also to benefit her Belmont University scholarship fund, and before launching her Certified Platinum Tour in early 2015, Lambert played a similarly small club show, at Nashville’s Exit/In.
Lambert’s Highway Vagabond Tour is set to begin in Evansville, Ind. — located about 300 miles south of Chicago — at the city’s Ford Center, on Thursday night (Jan. 26); for her trek’s opening acts, Lambert has tapped Old Dominion and Aubrie Sellers. Additionally, Lambert will headline the 2017 Taste of Country Music Festival in June.
