Midland made their CMA Awards debut on Wednesday night (Nov. 14). The country trio performed a cover of the Smokey and the Bandit theme song, "East Bound and Down" by Jerry Reed.

The trio's cover was unprecedented, including a lot more banjo and fiddle than their typical polished pop country. The foot-stompin' song had artists like Thomas Rhett standing up in the audience and Kelsea Ballerini singing along. It brought a dose of nostalgia and fun while also recognizing Reed's recent posthumous induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame this October.

In addition to Single of the Year, Midland are nominated at the 2018 CMA Awards for New Artist of the Year and Vocal Group of the Year. They released their debut disc, On the Rocks, on which "Drinkin' Problem" appears, in September of 2017.
