Because everyone outside their immediate family lives out of town, Martina McBride, her husband, John, and their three daughters plan to spend a "low-key" Christmas together at home in Nashville this year. "It's pretty quiet," Martina tells The Boot. "We don't really have a lot of people over. It's really our time to be together and just enjoy quiet time."

One thing they will be doing together is sitting down as a family on Wednesday night (Dec. 21) to watch 'A Home for the Holidays With Martina McBride,' the long-running TV special that helps promote the virtues of adoption. The country superstar is hosting the show for the first time this year.

Joining Martina to perform will be Justin Bieber, Mary J. Blige, Gavin DeGraw, OneRepublic and Christina Perri, with actresses Denise Richards and Katherine Heigl, who both have adopted daughters, presenting on the show. Katherine's sister, Meg Heigl-Beltran, who was adopted herself, will also be featured.

This year marks the 13th annual 'A Home for the Holidays,' which spotlights real-life families across the country who have taken in foster children or who have adopted children. The special is presented in association with the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption and the Children's Action Network.

"There are so many kids out there who want to be part of a family," Martina tells The Boot. "I think we take family for granted a little bit. For instance, we were decorating our Christmas tree ... we were laughing and talking about our ornaments and traditions and what different ornaments mean and who gave them to us, and I was struck in the middle of all that, thinking, 'There are so many kids who don't have this, who long to be part of a family and long to be able to have these kind of traditions.' It's heartbreaking."

For all the sadness those thoughts can conjure, Martina easily sees the positive side of telling the children's stories with the special. "It's heartwarming to see that people will open up their families and their lives and their homes," she notes. "It obviously enriches the child's life and the family's life as well."

Next up for Martina is her 2012 tour with George Strait, which kicks off Jan. 27, in Lafayette, La.

"He's such an icon and so well-loved," Martina says of the man referred to by many simply as King George. "I'm happy to be part of that tour and part of that show. I'm just gonna go out and do my part and play my music for my fans, then I'm gonna go out and watch his show every night."

Keep track of the Here for a Good Time tour dates here. 'A Home for the Holidays' airs Wednesday, Dec. 21 at 8:00 PM ET on CBS.
