Maddie & Tae celebrated the upcoming release of their debut album, Start Here, on Tuesday night (Aug. 18). They performed several of the new record's tracks, but the big surprise of the evening was a duet with Lee Ann Womack.

Maddie Marlow and Tae Dye invited Womack, one of their biggest influences, to the stage to perform "A Little Past Little Rock," Womack's Top 10 hit from 1998. Marlow and Dye harmonized on the first verse and chorus as Womack sat between them, looking on approvingly; Womack then took the lead on the second verse, with all three women singing the second chorus together. "We actually used to sing "A Little Past Little Rock" by Lee Ann Womack when we were, like, 15, as soon as we moved to Nashville and as soon as we started traveling back and forth to Nashville," Dye told the crowd before introducing Womack. "We would literally go anywhere that would have us to play, and we would sing this song. And we would sing it on the Nashville streetcorners, and it probably made us our most tips, so thank you for that."

The on-stage praise flowed both ways. After her performance, Womack took a moment to tell the crowd exactly why she feels that Maddie & Tae are so special.

"The thing I love most about these girls right here is that, at a time when so much focus is on other things, these girls seem to really focus on the music, and that's so important," the country star said.

Maddie & Tae -- and Marlow in particular -- have been vocal about Womack's influence on their career in the past as well.

“I believe I was either four or five, and Lee Ann Womack’s music video for "I Hope You Dance" had just come out, and I just remember watching it, and I was like, ‘I want to do that so badly!’ It really captivated me very young,” Marlow has said in the past, a sentiment that she echoed on stage during the album release party.

"I remember how impactful ["I Hope You Dance"], the artist and the video was for me," she said during the event, "and just seeing that at such a young age and knowing that that's something that I wanted to do ..."

Start Here is set for release on Aug. 28.
