Luke Bryan CMA Awards Night Brings Backstage Fun

The 46th Annual CMA Awards are still a few weeks away but, win or lose, Luke Bryan already knows which role he’s going to play backstage.

“I’m always kind of the alcohol stocker for the dressing room,” Luke told The Boot after CMA nominations press conference in New York. “I find out everyone who is in our dressing room. If it’s me and the Lady Antebellum guys, I know what everybody drinks so I make sure we don’t run out of cocktails backstage.”

The most important part to creating an entertaining show is having a good time, even if you’re not feeling like yourself. “Last year at CMAs, I was under the weather and I took a B12 shot and a steroid shot, and I was like Spiderman climbing the walls,” he recalls. “I learned never to take something that’ll get you all anxious again.”

Granted, the singer-songwriter is genuinely just happy to there. “For me, the main thing is it’s fun being backstage,” Luke admits. “It’s so fun being in the game. I was in this business for four years having moderate success, not ever having the chance to perform or be nominated, so the fact that I’m in the game at another level and performing it just means the world to me, I enjoy it and relish it, every second of it.”

This year, the Georgia native is up for both Male Vocalist and Album of the Year, the latter for his Tailgates and Tanlines. “It’s a huge honor. I was very surprised,” he reveals. “I chuckled when we named it Tailgates and Tanlines, and I’ve always loved that album title. My head of promotion at Capitol came up with that title and since we put the album out it’s been so many good vibes. This is the official final stamp of it really, truly being a career album for me. It’s a big deal for me to have an album that in this day in age, when record sales are really, really tough to achieve, to be in the million and a half type sales. It’s pretty rewarding and amazing. Big time excitement and big time high.”
