Little Jimmy Dickens will begin three weeks of short-term radiation treatment for a pre-cancerous condition on his vocal cords Wednesday (July 10), but he will have plenty to keep him busy while he recovers. The 92-year-old received a large bin of get-well wishes from his fans over the weekend, with the letters still piling in.

“If those are bills, you can keep ‘em,” Dickens jokes. “If they’re royalty checks or cards from the best fans in the world, I couldn’t be more excited or appreciative.”

The veteran entertainer announced last month that he would have to miss several Opry shows due to his illness, but said he felt encouraged by the well-wishes of fans all over the country.

“I can’t begin to express my sincere gratitude for the thoughts and prayers that are being sent my way,” the singer said. “My family and I appreciate the support, and I can’t wait to return home to the stage of the Grand Ole Opry in one of my favorite rhinestone suits someday soon.”

Fans are encouraged to send Little Jimmy Dickens a card at the address below.
