Kip Moore is going back to school. The Georgia native will head to the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Monday, Oct. 1, to perform his chart-topping hit, "Somethin' 'Bout a Truck" on the UT campus as part of the "Today" show's "Kathie Lee and Hoda Go Back to College" special.

The University of Tennessee won the morning performance in a contest to see which college could show the most school spirit by earning the most votes. After a strong Twitter campaign, UT became one of six finalists, before their almost 150,000 votes determined them the winner.

"The energy level at a college is always heightened," says Kip. "You've got so much spirit among the student body. That gives us energy when we are playing, so we always look forward to playing on college campuses."

The Valdosta State University (Ga.) alum is excited to head to the popular college to perform. "The spirit of these big SEC schools is pretty amazing," he notes. "I never got to be a part of that, so I am looking forward to it."

The "Beer Money" singer previously appeared on the "Today" show in July and is eager to return to chat with the bubbly TV hosts. "They made me feel really comfortable," he recalls. "They are good people, and it's always good to hang out with good people."

Kip adds that he's especially honored to have been chosen to perform for the live broadcast. "I've worked hard and it's awesome to see these songs come to life and people get to hear them on a national scale," he explains. "So many times I questioned if I was doing the right thing. The next thing you know, all of a sudden these songs you wrote in the dark and quiet, that you thought only you would hear, are getting to be heard by thousands and sometimes millions of people. It's a neat thing."

The rising country star has had plenty of opportunity to let fans hear his music this year, thanks to his role as an opening act on Eric Church's Blood, Sweat & Tears tour. They'll head to Iowa and Missouri this weekend. See their remaining concert dates here.

Kip's performance on the "Today" show will air Monday, Oct. 1 at 10:00 AM ET on NBC.
