Kip Moore lives in Nashville, Tenn., several hours away from his family in Georgia. But he always makes a point to be home over the holidays, which makes this season a bittersweet time for the singer.

The 'Dirt Road' singer's father passed away a few years ago, but his memories are especially close during Christmas. There are a couple traditions Moore shared with his dad that he hopes he'll be able to continue with his own family some day.

“The night before Christmas, my dad would take us to the store, the video store, and we would rent a bunch of movies, and we’d watch them all through the night," Moore recalls to GAC. "That was always a thing that we’d look forward to, was all hanging out together and laughing until 3 or 4 or 5 in the morning, then waking up two hours later for the presents.”

Moore, his brothers and his dad would also spend time fishing on Christmas day.

"Hopefully I can do that kind of stuff,” Moore says. "I hope I can be half as awesome as my dad was with us ... I hope I can get the chance to do that. I might even include my future wife on the fishing trips."

In the meantime, the 34-year-old is looking forward to having a new album to celebrate in the new year. After delaying the release of his sophomore record twice, he assures fans it will be worth the wait.

“[It] is going to be a stronger record,” Moore explains. “I love the other stuff I was doing, and I love this new stuff. The other stuff is going to find its way out at some point, but it just might not have fit with what this new record has become.

“I want to get something out, ’cause it’s been a while, but I want it to be the best thing I can do, too,” he adds, “and that’s worth waiting a little bit for.”

Meanwhile, the singer-songwriter will be hitting the road in 2015, headlining his own tour, which includes shows in the United States, as well as in Canada and England. See a complete list of dates here.
