Kevin WelchKevin Welch will release his first solo album in eight years today, a project made in his new home state of Texas. 'A Patch of Blue Sky' was recorded at various studios around the state.

"I moved just outside of Austin, Texas on April Fools Day, 2008, and I really like it," Kevin says. "This is the first record I've made since I moved here. I wish I could spend more time here."

Kevin has a couple very special guests on the disc. "I had the unique pleasure of working with my children -- my daughter Savannah and her band, the Trishes, and my son Dustin. Dustin told me he's wanted to record with me since he was eight," says the proud dad.

Together with Texas musicians and other friends, Kevin has produced an Americana based, R&B tinged recording that features his tunes including the poignant 'Come a Rain,' the wistful 'New Widow's Dream' and the love story of 'Andaman Sea.'

"I wanted to start from scratch with the players and engineers, and I feel fortunate to have hooked up with the people who worked on the CD," Kevin says. "The most interesting part of the whole recording process was doing overdubs, which is something I had not done since 1991 or so, preferring to record live with the band. This time we cut the basic tracks, with Dustin and myself, and then went back and began constructing the record. It turns out it worked very well."

Kevin is a well-known songwriter in the country community, having written songs for numerous singers including Reba McEntire, The Judds,Trisha Yearwood, Waylon Jennings,The Highwaymen, Patty Loveless, Charley Pride, Ricky Skaggs, Pam Tillis, Conway Twitty and Don Williams. He conducts songwriting seminars throughout the year in addition to performing and producing other artists.
