Kenny Rogers, George Jones Put Homes Up for Auction

Downsizing, whether for economical or other reasons, seems to be catching on in country music, as two iconic entertainers, Kenny Rogers and George Jones, have recently decided to put their stylish digs on the market.

Kenny Rogers’ lakeside retreat near Athens, Ga., will go on the auction block on June 26, the Atlanta Business Chronicle reports. Described as a secluded, “custom-built Polynesian-inspired, five bedroom, five-and-a-half bathroom lake home,” the house is built on property that includes a fully stocked private lake with island, fenced horse pastures and miles of wooded riding trails on 150 acres of virgin forest. The home itself was built around a lanai and pool and features include oak and marble-inlaid floors, custom millwork, a gourmet kitchen, three-car garage and separate guest house.

The absolute auction is being conducted by Charlotte, N.C.-based Grand Estates Auction. The company says no minimum bid or reserve price will be required or set. The home will be sold for a fair market value in 60 days, according to the company.

Just 11 days after Kenny’s home goes up for auction, the Franklin, Tenn., home of George Jones will go under the hammer. The Nashville Post reports that on Saturday, July 7, the 9,700 square foot estate on 78 acres, with four bedrooms, five bathrooms, two guest residences and two lakes is being offered at auction for a second time. In 2011, the country legend and his wife Nancy listed the home, in the Nestledown Farms subdivision south of Nashville, for $15 million. Residents in Nashville and the surrounding areas often made the home a holiday destination thanks to the couple’s extensive display of Christmas lights and decorations.

George Jones, 80, has been battling health issues, having been hospitalized twice this year with an upper respiratory infection. His concerts scheduled through June have been postponed or canceled while he continues to recuperate at home.
