Kenny Chesney Is Raring to Renew His ‘Love Affair’ With Fans
Kenny Chesney is ready to rock the stage on his Goin’ Coastal tour, which kicks off next month. He seems to be nearly chomping at the bit to get back out there and connect with his loyal fans who have been waiting patiently for more than a year to see their favorite star in concert.
The four-time CMA and ACM Entertainer of the Year took 2010 off from touring to recharge his creative batteries, because he had constantly been on the road since he launched his career in 1994. Since 2004, he has played for more than one million fans every year, which can certainly take a toll on your mental and physical well-being, especially if you’re as involved in his career as he has been over the past two decades. In 2009, the Tennessee native revealed he would be taking a breather from the road, and the last time he stepped off the stage from one of his major tours was September 19, 2009 in Indianapolis.
Now, Kenny has just hit the airwaves with his new single, ‘Live a Little,’ and while he’s been making a pair of film documentaries and releasing a new album, ‘Hemingway’s Whiskey,’ he feels he has lived a little in the past 17 months.
“I do feel like I’ve had time off,” Kenny tells The Boot. “I don’t feel like I’ve stopped, but I’ve mentally had time off from the things that I needed mentally time away from, and I’m ready to go back out. I’ve missed the energy. I’ve missed the excitement. I’ve missed the anticipation of the first note every night. I’ve missed that, and we’re going to feel that literally in exactly one month in West Palm Beach, and I’m excited about it. The band’s anxious. The band’s sounding better than ever, and we’re working really hard at rehearsing. It’s an exciting time for all of us. To go out there and the love affair that I feel like we experience with the fans is second to none. And that’s the reason that I wanted to take a break too, because I felt like I had to protect that at any cost, and now we’re ready to go back.”
Kenny makes his much-anticipated return to the stage when the Goin’ Coastal tour begins March 17 at the Cruzan Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach, Fla., with opening acts Billy Currington and Uncle Kracker. He also will be joined by the Zac Brown Band for his stadium tour dates in Tampa, Dallas, Washington, D.C., Green Bay, Wis., Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Kansas City, East Rutherford, N.J. and Foxboro, Mass.
