Two of country music's biggest hitmakers are joining forces to create an album. Kenny Chesney has been tapped by David Lee Murphy to co-produce his new record, No Zip Code.

“We got together to make a record of songs we liked the sound of … things we’d want to listen to ourselves, the kinda music we like,” Murphy explains (quote via CMT). “Kenny’s got great ears, and I kept sending him demos … more than he could ever record, but he just loved the songs. One day, he said, ‘I think we oughta go make a record.’”

In recent years, the "Dust on the Bottle" singer has penned several big hits for Chesney -- including "'Til It's Gone," "Live a Little" and "Pirate Flag" -- as well as songs for other artists, including Jason Aldean's "Big Green Tractor," Thompson Square's "Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not" and Jake Owen's "Anywhere With You." But No Zip Code will feature tracks that are all representative of the now 56-year-old and the diverse musical path he's taken.

"When I was 20, I was listening to Waylon [Jennings], Merle Haggard, Willie [Nelson], [George] Jones," Murphy says (quote via Rolling Stone Country). "I was out on a back road, drinking beer, knowing they'd done stuff -- and wanting to hear all about it. That's kind of the way with me, too: These songs aren't about me, they are me, and there's an edge, but even more, they're real."

Adds Chesney, “There’s a real aggression to this. But it’s also core country like it’s not being done. Not retro, but the way Alabama or the [Nitty Gritty] Dirt Band might sound today ... This is about being raised on the right influences and hitting it straight on.”

Murphy recently joined Chesney on stage for the opening night of Chesney's 2015 The Big Revival Tour in Nashville. His last album, Tryin' to Get There, was released in 2004.

Murphy is co-producing No Zip Code with Chesney, along Chesney's longtime producer Buddy Cannon. A label and release date have not been announced, but updates will be posted on Murphy's website.
