Kenny Chesney Boston Concert Has Singer Contemplating Fan Security

Kenny Chesney‘s love affair for Boston runs deep. The country superstar, who holds the record for selling out the most shows in Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass. (about 30 miles south of Boston), says the recent bomb explosion at the Boston Marathon, which resulted in three fatalities and more than 170 injuries, serves as a reminder to him to be vigilant about keeping fans safe.

“It’s always in the back of our mind, but we have as much security as we possibly can,” Kenny tells ABC News Radio Online of his current No Shoes Nation tour. “We play a lot of these football stadiums and it’s the same security that they would have at a sporting event. You can’t overdo it either. What is too much security? What is too little security? It does make you think about it.”

The “Pirate Flag” singer will release his next album, Life on a Rock, on April 30, and says it’s the most honest set of tunes he has ever shared with fans. “I was able to make a record where I didn’t edit myself like you usually do for a record,” he explains. “I approached this record unlike any other I’ve ever done. I wrote all these songs knowing that the majority of them would never see the light of day on a radio station or in my show.”

Kenny’s No Shoes Nation tour, which includes Eric Church, Kacey Musgraves, and the Eli Young Band, as well as the Zac Brown Band on select dates, will play two shows at Gillette Stadium, Aug. 23 and 24. His next scheduled concert is Friday night (April 19) in Las Vegas. See a list of his upcoming shows here.
