Kelly Clarkson ditched her elaborate wedding plans and got married in an intimate ceremony over the weekend, with only her new husband, Brandon Blackstock, and his two children in attendance. But while Clarkson’s mother was removed from the guest list, she insists she is totally fine with their decision.

“She didn’t want to hurt our feelings,” her mother, Jeanne Taylor, tells Celebuzz.com. “She has had a lot on her plate and I’ve seen her schedule for the next month and Christmas. But we’re happy for her and she’s so happy. She was so afraid we might be upset. But we were fine with it ... I had known that she was under a lot of stress. And we just wanted her to be happy and not stressed out ... I think the biggest thing for us to do was to allow her to do what she wanted to do.”

The newlywed’s families, which also includes Clarkson’s new in-laws, Reba McEntire and her husband, Narvel Blackstock, won’t be entirely left out of the celebration. The thoughtful couple documented the event to share with their family and close friends.

“She made a [wedding] video and we’ll get to see all of it,” the proud mom adds. “She said she cried through the whole thing anyway. She’s really emotional like that. She’s now glad she didn’t do it in front of a lot of people because then she’d be embarrassed."

Clarkson defends their choice to have a private ceremony, saying it was the best decision considering their chaotic lives. “Our whole life is a celebration,” the singer explains. “We don’t need another day where we throw a big party. Our lives are so in the spotlight all the time. Everything is such a spectacle, we were like, ‘We would rather have an intimate moment that’s special.’”
